Cop chases criminal on rooftop, falls and gets injured

According to the Wadala TT police, on Sunday, Sharad Wayande (44) had received information that accused Samad Salim Khan, who is wanted in an attempt to murder case, would be coming to visit his family.

An Assistant Police Inspector (API) attached to Wadala TT police station was seriously injured after he fell down from a roof while chasing a wanted criminal on Monday. The API was immediately rushed to a hospital where he is currently recuperating and is believed to be out of danger.

According to the Wadala TT police, on Sunday, Sharad Wayande (44) had received information that accused Samad Salim Khan, who is wanted in an attempt to murder case, would be coming to visit his family. Acting on the tip-off, Wayande along with other policemen laid a trap near Khan's residence at Sangam Nagar in Azad Mohalla of the Wadala TT area to nab him.

"In the evening, when Wayande raided the house, Khan was present in his residence but managed to escape as he climed up on to the roof and started running," said an officer from Wadala TT police station.

"Wayande started chasing him from one roof to another but unfortunately a roof gave way and Wayande came crashing down," he added.

When the other policemen heard a loud noise of Wayande falling, they rushed to help him. He was immediately taken to a hospital nearby by his colleagues. "Wayande has sustained injuries in his legs but is out of danger. He is responding well to medicines," an officer said.

According to the police, they have launched a manhunt for Khan. The police informed that Khan is a history sheeter with a total of 22 cases registered against him.
