Three days after 516 SSC exam papers were stolen from a Dahisar school, another controversy has erupted with a video, doing the rounds of social media, showing a teacher correcting answer sheets at an eatery. The video, shot by a few members of Yuva Sena, the students' wing of the Shiv Sena, shows a man correcting the answer sheets in a small restaurant, with a stack of papers lying on the table.

As per the norms laid by the board, teachers are not allowed to carry answer sheets outside of their schools.

Yuva Sena on Thursday complained to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, asking the authorities to take action against the teacher and his school for ‘violating the norms that mandate teachers to correct board papers only in the school’. “A few volunteers from the organisation spotted a man correcting papers in a hotel at Vile Parle. These papers had a hologram and a bar code and looked like Class 12 board exam answer sheets. They captured the act in a video, which we have now submitted to the board officials,” said Pradeep Sawant, a senior Yuva Sena member.

Sawant said that it thus seems like a gross violation of the norm not only on the part of the teacher in question but also the school. “We have asked the board to take strict action against the teacher in question and also the school/college from where the teacher took those papers out,” he added.

Dattatray Jagtap, chairman, Mumbai Divisional Board, confirmed that the board has received the video and the complaint. “We have received the video and have asked the Yuva Sena members to give a few more details based on what they saw at the hotel, as the video does not establish that the papers in question are board papers. We are trying to gather more details before further steps can be taken” Jagtap said.
