Waiting for your connecting international flight? Now, no need to need to yawn or break your neck nodding off on the airport benches. The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) has placed ‘sleeping cubicles’ at the T-2C Mezzanine.
Airport officials said the cubicles, which have been made in Germany, have a noise-proof mechanism, which will cut down the chaos and hustle-bustle inside the airport so that passengers can relax or work in a comfortable environment before continuing the journey.
Passengers will have to pay for the time spent inside a cubicle, apart from certain minimum fees.
A similar system is already in place at other airports in the world, such as at Munich in Germany.
According to airport sources, so far, four cubicles, also called ‘napcabs’, have been installed near the departure and transit areas of CSIA. The facility is mainly aimed at those who take international flights at night.
As per the system put in place, booking for a napcab can be done by swiping a credit card on the touchscreen provided. “Once a passenger exits a cubicle, the cleaning staff will be alerted automatically. They will then clean up the space and change necessary items for the next passenger,” said a source.
Apart from a spacious bed, a cubicle also has a working area along with electronic and cell phone charging points, Internet access, flight info system, alarm clock, multimedia audio and video system, along with designer lights, which can be changed as per the passenger’s preference for a relaxed atmosphere.
The new facility has come as a boon for frequent international and business travellers.
“For a traveller like me, who is constantly on the move, this is great news,” said Shabib Sayed, an entrepreneur, who frequently goes to Europe and other places.
