The Congress legislature party (CLP) on Tuesday demanded extending the duration of the budget session, so that justice could be done to grave issues such as farmers' suicides, drought situation, price rise and law and order situation, through discussion in the state assembly.

The CLP meeting was held at their office at Vidhan Bhavan, and was attended by leader of Opposition in the state assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, leader in state legislative council Sharad Ranpise, deputy leader in state assembly Vijay Vadettiwar, former state unit president Manikrao Thakare, among others.

After attending the business advisory committee meet, Vikhe-Patil said the government much increase the duration of the budget session. He said the scheduled time table would be inadequate to complete the discussions on important issues, since the government has decided to keep reserved five days for discussion on budget and there are 17 holidays in the 40 days scheduled for the budget session.

He further pointed out that the state assembly would work for just 23 working days and the time is insufficient, which is why the CLP was demanding extending the session to at least April 29, instead of the scheduled April 17.

Meanwhile, minister for Parliamentary Affairs Girish Bapat informed dna that the government was not averse to extending the session, if the scheduled business was not finished.
