A 14-year-old student was allegedly beaten up by his class teacher on Thursday. Suhail Ansari, a class 9 student of Oxford English High School near Kurla was beaten up by his teacher Shyam Vishwakarma in the morning after an argument broke out between the two.

Suhail, who is recovering from a head injury which he got three months ago, was beaten with a wooden stick on his hand during the first period in school. After being beaten up, he rushed home.

"My brother came home crying and said that the teacher beat him up badly. He said that his head was hurting as the stick also hit his head. The school should take responsibility for what happened," said Shoeb, Suhail's brother.

The family filed a police complaint in the matter at the Ghatkopar police station.

"We booked the schoolteacher under relevant sections of the IPC and Juvenile Justice Act. The accused has been remanded to police custody and will be produced in the court on Friday. The victim is being treated at Sion hospital and is out of danger," said VB Patil, Senior PI, Ghatkopar police station.

The school suspended the teacher after the incident.

"Despite several warnings to the child, he kept talking in class. However, beating him was not justified. We are taking necessary measures to ensure this does not happen again," said Khan Mohammed Nadeem, Manager of the school.
