City schools have been asked to register themselves as digital schools under the Pragat Shaikshanik Maharashtra (PSM) programme.

The south zone education inspector has issued a circular on April 12 for all south Mumbai schools to this effect. Almost 11,228 schools have been digitalised, according to the records of registration done by the schools in state under PSM till February 2016. However, not a single school from Mumbai city has been registered, states the circular.

The schools have been asked to check the 25 criteria which have been decided for the schools to call themselves as progressive and digital schools. If the schools fit under those criteria, then they have been asked to register themselves as digital schools on the given website. If their teachers are tech savvy, then that information have also been asked to be incorporated in another website given to them. The schools have been immediately asked to start registration and send a report to the education office.

An education official from south zone said, "Yes, the schools have been asked to register themselves on the given websites."

Prashant Redij, spokesperson, Maharashtra Principal Association, said, "To bring quality in school education, the state education department is initiating this PSM programme. Our association is visiting different regions and making efforts to bring quality education in schools."

Uday Nare, teacher of Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri, said: "From today, in many schools, the training has started on how to register on the given website as a progressive and digital school."

Recently, teachers and principals of the north zone were invited for a workshop on how to make use of technology while teaching students in school.
