City reels under dengue attack

The city of Mumbai is under the attack of dengue these days. As per the latest figures released by the BMC for this month, 2058 patients have been admitted to the civic hospitals with symptoms of dengue till September 15. Out of the total patients 160 have already been tested positive for dengue.

Recently Bollywood actress Vidya Balan was also diagnosed with dengue.

According to the civic body the spurt in the cases is because the climate is ideal for the breeding of the dengue spreading aedes aegypti mosquito.

Senior officials of the BMC's health department visited the area around Manish market in South Mumbai on Monday to inspect the mosquito breeding sites in the area and the drainage of rain water among other things. The city has also reported 17 confirmed cases of Leptospirosis.
