Holi was celebrated with great mirth and joy across the city with very few fatal injuries reported on Monday. BMC-run KEM Hospital though had a packed casualty department with patients being treated on outpatient department (OPD) basis.

Few patients were admitted with minor injuries ranging from abrasions, cuts and sprains, following Holi celebrations in the orthopedic department. The ophthalmic department, also treated around 10 patients for minor eye irritations on an OPD basis. "A 28-year-old man fractured his left arm after he fell from his bike. He's admitted in the ward and he will require a surgery. Another person, who also fell from his bike suffered a head injury," said a doctor.

"Cases of fractures, head injuries and bhang poisoning are predominantly flowing in. We are treating patients and sending them back home," said a casualty medical officer, KEM Hospital.
Thankfully, no major injuries due to colour poisoning or balloon throwing were reported.

Dr Avinash Supe, dean, Sion Hospital, said, "We had one patient, Sonu Singh, admitted due to bhang ingestion. His condition is stable. Two other patients, Angel Jangel (7), and Ganesh Chavan (28), suffered from eye irritation due to colours and were soon discharged."

"Sonu had consumed bhang. He started vomiting and requested his neighbours to take him to the hospital," said Sonu's friend, Shiv Sharma.

BMC-run Nair hospital treated four patients with minor abrasions. "The patients didn't need to be admitted. This year the cases were minor," said Dr N Bharmal, dean of the civic-run hospital.

State-run JJ Hospital, treated four patients with lacerated wounds but were soon discharged. Three patients with minor eye irritation were also admitted.

Last year, one person was killed and seven others were injured. A yellow powder like substance was thrown at commuters travelling in a Thane bound train. All eight of them fell from the over-crowded train, of which one died after the colour was thrown at them.
