Final preparations for Christmas celebration is in full swing and churches in Thane have planned different set of activities and competitions for people across the city.
Our Lady of Mercy Church, situated at Pokharan Road, has planned many events for big day.
Father Joel Pinto shared, "To mark the occasion, many competitions like best family crib, best decorated Christmas house, best Christmas sweet competition, carol singing and star-making competition."
OLMC church had also organised sale of branded products and other stuffs at affordable prices for the underprivileged people so that they too can celebrate the festival.
All the activities would be celebrated at zonal-level and OLMC church covers around 18 zones hence, for crib and best decorated Christmas house, the representatives would be paying visit to individuals home while star-making competition would be held in church premises.
The youth would be organising Christmas party for slum children and Christmas kit would be distributed to family and community as well.
St John The Baptist Church, too, have lined up competitions like crib and star-making and carol singing. Apart from children's play to be held today, a special visit to the mental hospital is also planned as a part of Christmas celebration.
Convent Blessings Church have planned a grand event on today at Kothari College compound at Tikujiniwadi, Manpada. Most churches have planned extended celebration which will continue till the first week of January next year.
While all Christian community are ready for the competition, some non-Christians are willing to participate in star-making and house decoration. Ipsita Das, who believes in celebrating every festival with equal joy shared, "I have special interest in decking up my house for every festival. I will decorate my house for Christmas and New Year as well. I would be participating in best decorated Christmas house competition and am confident to win it."
From big parties to competition, Thanekars are ready for a grand Christmas celebration this year.
