Selection of Thane as a prospective smart city in the first phase has come across as a boost for the city. Recently, 15 delegates from China visited the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC). The team, headed by chief marketing executive of MCC International In Corporation, a Chinese company, made a presentation to TMC chief Sanjeev Jaiswal on what infrastructure enhancement can be made to make Thane a smart city.
Sandeep Malvi, TMC PRO, said, "The team from MCC International In Corporation Limited was here to share their views on how infrastructure could be enhanced. They gave a presentation briefing our officials about how successfully they have completed infrastructure development work in various countries and that they could help with Thane's development."
Among their list of achievements, the team shared that they have laid railways and roads, designed water management system, developed a new city and efficiently managed the energy requirement.
Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation's civic chief E Ravindaran and officials from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation were present at the meeting. Apart from Thane, Navi Mumbai and twin city Kalyan-Dombivli are also in the race to be developed as smart city.
"It was interesting to see the work being done by them and we have got fair idea on how to develop our city into a smart city," said a civic official.
However, the activists and residents do not resonate the corporation's feedback. Chandrahas Tawde, an activist, said, "When the prime minster is speaking of Make In India, then why invite a Chinese company? In smart city guidelines, it has been mentioned to take residents into confidence and work collectively hence, TMC should focus on this rather than outsourcing the work."
