Chembur cops arrest mechanic for assaulting ex-boss

Chembur police arrested a 33-year-old former employee of an auto spare parts company for allegedly assaulting his former boss and robbing him of his car and Rs2 lakh. The complainant had borrowed the cash from his sister for their mother's treatment and was on his way to the hospital when the incident happened.

Chembur police arrested a 33-year-old former employee of an auto spare parts company for allegedly assaulting his former boss and robbing him of his car and Rs2 lakh. The complainant had borrowed the cash from his sister for their mother's treatment and was on his way to the hospital when the incident happened.

According to the Chembur police, the incident took place at 11.30 pm on Tuesday. The complainant, Surendrapal Singh Arneja, a resident of Navi Mumbai, was on his way to the hospital where is mother was slated to undergo a surgery. He decided to briefly stop at his shop for some work.

In his complaint to the police, Arneja said that he had borrowed Rs2 lakh from his sister for their mother's treatment. He told the police that when he got out of his car near the shop at Chembur, the accused, identified as Shikar Fernandes, 33 hit his head with a blunt object. After a small scuffle, Fernandes fled with Arneja's Honda City, which had a bag containing the cash.

An officer from Chembur police said that Arneja then approached the police and registered an FIR. The cops arrested Fernandes within few hours' time.

The officer added: "During questioning, Fernandes told us that Arneja owed him some money from a very long time, and did not return it despite repeat requests."

The Chembur police booked Fernandes for robbery, assault and theft under relevant sections of the IPC. Police are also now investigating whether the two had any financial dispute which led to their fallout.
