Chembur BPCL blast: 45 injured in mishap, 21 being treated at Sushrut Hospital in Mumbai

Around 45 workers of the BPCL plant suffered minor injuries after a boiler blast in the hydrocracker. The relatives and family members of the workers started gathering at Sushrut Hospital in Chembur to meet the workers.

Of the 45 injured, 22 were discharged after administering basic first aid from the BPCL Medical Centre.

One of the workers, Sachin Sadaphule, 35, suffered a head injury. His relatives said he is in a stable condition now. Sushil Sadaphule, Sachin's brother, said: "He is in a stable condition now. We spoke to him. They were lazying at the canteen area after lunch when they learned about the blast."

Sachin, a resident of Chembur, who works in the AC section, had suffered a head injury. He said, "I am fine now. I have suffered from a minor head injury. I underwent a CT scan, and the doctor is waiting for the reports for further treatment. I was not wearing a safety helmet because of which when a sheet fell on my head, I got injured."

Avdhut Parab, a staff member, who fractured his leg, and is a resident of Dahisar, said: "I got hurt while running outside. I heard the blast and ran for my life; that's when I fractured my leg. I even wounded my leg when it brushed against an aluminium sheet."

Out of the 21 being treated, five are in the ICU. "Most of them have suffered minor injuries and fractures on their head, hands, or legs. While all are in stable condition, few of them underwent CT scan and X-ray. Further treatment is going on," said a doctor from the ICU ward.

Speaking to MLA Prakash Phaterpekar, another injured, who is in the ICU, said, "The boiler is around 400 metre away from the place where I was working. When I heard the blast, I started running and fell down, bruising my face."
