Anjana Halde has been stitching clothes for years but never had she thought that this would someday turn into a full fledged business for her that she had always been dreaming of. Halde who is a class 10 drop-out, lives in Golibar area of Santacruz (E).

Halde joined hands with Yuva Parivartan, in 2009, and enrolled for a certificate course in tailoring and fashion designing, and thereafter started her own tailoring. Yuva Parivartan is a non-governmental organisation that helps underprivileged people residing in slums across the city, by giving them vocational training to make them independent in life. However, polio-stricken Halde found it difficult to stitch clothes on the sewing machine, which required using both her legs on the paddle. And it was her friend who gifted her a tailoring machine that worked on electricity and didn't need the usage of feet. On an average, Halde earns Rs 4,000, per month, by stitching clothes like kurtis, saris, salwar kameez, tops and shirts exclusively for women.

Halde is very happy and passionate about the work she is doing that helps her to support her family as well. Harmik Singh, member of Yuva Parivartan, said, “We are amazed to see the kind of dedication Anjana has while she is working. Not just the quantity, but the quality of her work also shows how committed she is while conducting her business.”

Halde also plans to start a tailoring course in future to help the underprivileged women persue their dreams and be independent like she has become.
