According to the police, at least two more labourers are still believed to be trapped under the debris.

The Sakinaka police on Monday registered an FIR against Spark Infrastructure, the contractor who was executing the demolition of the building as well as Kaushal Mukesh Builders and Developers, who had appointed the contractor. They have been booked for causing death due to negligence, causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others, and causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others.

"The heavy rains on Monday were an obstacle in the rescue operation plus the JCBs are also inside the debris, under which the labourers are also trapped. We are facing many problems in the rescue operations, and we need to care about the safety of the buildings next to the site. We have four fire tenders for the rescue operations, but it will take some more time as the debris is huge. The site not only has the debris of the collapsed part of the building but also of the floors which were demolished," said P S Rahangdale, Chief Fire Officer, Mumbai Fire Brigade.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Bharat Marathe (Zone V) said, "The demolition was carried out in an unscientific method. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officer who has inspected the site after collapse informed that systematic method of demolition was not followed. I have had no communication from any SRA official regarding the building collapse. As a civic body, we are providing manpower for rescue operations."

"The building was handed over by the BMC to the SRA, the civic officials have said. We are investigating the cause of collapse," said ND Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Krishna Business Park, an 18-storey building under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority was being demolished with the help of JCBs.
