Centre making model building bye-laws, says M Venkaiah Naidu

Naidu informed that he had a discussion with Fadnavis on the matter and handed over the recently prepared model building bye-laws to the chief minister.

Union minister for urban development M Venkaiah Naidu informed that the Centre was in the process of making model building bye-laws by bringing together six ministries of the Union government so that uniformity is arrived at in all the states in this regard. He informed that Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is also trying to bring in uniformity in building bye-laws.

Naidu informed that he had a discussion with Fadnavis on the matter and handed over the recently prepared model building bye-laws to the chief minister. He added that Fadnavis told him about the efforts being made by Maharashtra government to bring in uniformity in these laws.

The Union minister was speaking to media persons after inaugurating the BRICS Friendship Cities Conclave 2016, comprising representations from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. A special postal cover was also released by governor of Maharashtra Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, who presided over the inaugural function.

Naidu also released a collection of essays titled 'The Making of Vibrant BRICS Cities', authored by more than 25 eminent writers. The book depicts the challenges and the opportunities that are before cities from the BRICS nations in becoming a truly vibrant urban city. Chief post master general Ashok Das, Mumbai, first chairman Narendra Nair, chief secretary of Maharashtra Swadheen Kshatriya were also present on the dais. CEO of Mumbai First Shishir Joshi conducted the inaugural session.

Naidu said that the mindset of administrators and the people would have to be changed for creating smart cities and that only funding of Rs500 crore from the Union government was not enough for the same. He also said that the cities aiming to becoming smart cities would have to create their own credit-worthiness so that investors would be attracted to invest in them.

Fadnavis on Thursday announced that the state government plans to create an urban agglomeration, NAINA, which would host 22 smart cities. Fadnavis also informed that the first integrated development plan for the same was ready while the second was in process of making.
