An unidentified burglar tried breaking into three flats in a building in Nagpada on Friday, only to fail miserably. Ironically, the building the burglar targeted is located opposite the office of the anti-terrorism squad. The Nagpada police have registered a case of burglary in connection with the incident.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Friday around 12pm at Noman Villa, a four-storeyed building in Nagpada. Hutaib Bandukwala, a marketing and communications consultant who lives on the second floor of the building, said, "There are three flats on each floor. The man targeted a ground floor flat, which is owned by my aunt's father, who passed away a few months ago. The house has been locked since then. He also tried breaking into a second floor flat which belongs to my aunt, who went abroad a few days ago. He also targeted a fourth floor flat, and the family staying in that house was out for a few hours when the incident occurred."

Bandukwala further added that the residents of the building heard a commotion, but when they tried getting out of their houses, they found out that their doors had been locked from the outside. "We then called the police and informed them about the incident. The burglar failed to open the latches of all the three flats and fled before he could be nabbed. It appears that the man had been keeping a close watch on the building since the past few days as he was aware that some of the flats were empty," Bandukwala added.

Police said there are no CCTV cameras installed in the building premises. There is a security guard, and residents told the police that since the building is located opposite the ATS office and the police colony, there is constant police presence in the area. "It appears that the burglar is an amateur. We have launched a manhunt to trace him," a police officer from Nagpada police station said.
