On Friday locals of Marine Lines and Girgaum took to social media to complain about the bad condition of the bridge in their area. The bridge in concern is the one that connects to the Marine Line station and is used by commuters. Locals stated that they even complained to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), yet no action has been taken by the civic body.

They even posted pictures of tiles giving away which makes a walk on the bridge dangerous, especially when it is used by senior citizens too. According to locals local corporator Rita Makwana wrote a letter to the BMC informing them about the bad condition of the road.

Amit Bhadricha, a local of Girgaum and a Yuva Sena official, tweeted on Friday claiming that the bridge is in a bad situation. "I had even written to the BMC ward office last year about the situation of the bridge, but till date, no action has been taken. Seeing the condition of the bridge we want the BMC to immediately take action before any untoward incident takes place," she wrote.

Bhadricha even posted the letter he had written to the BMC ward office. When contacted the ward officer of C Ward S Sardar, who is holding additional charge of the ward he said, he refused to comment and promised to revert after looking into the issue.

Rita Makwana, the local corporator said, "I have raised the issue of the bridge even today. This issue is on my agenda and I have taken it up on various stages. I am told it's on the final stage, and tenders will be issued soon for the bridge. It is part of the bridge audit of the city too."

Meanwhile, the letter by Makwaa had also mentioned that the stairs of the bridge are in a bad shape too. Bhadricha added, "Is the administration waiting for an accident to take any action?"

The bridge at Charni Road station is already shut after a portion of it had come down last year. The local group over there had protested a few days before the portion of it had collapsed.
