Brace for heavy spells of rain for next two days in Mumbai: IMD

Several parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai and Vidharbha are likely to witness heavy to moderate rainfall in the next 48 hours as per India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials.

As per IMD officials, Mumbaikars will see the return of isolated heavy showers from Saturday. Meanwhile for Vidharbha, the department has forcasted heavy rainfall, with isolated places reciving very heavy rainfall on July 22 and 23.

Mumbai on Saturday saw spells of rains throughout the day as Colaba recorded 6.2 mm while Sanatcruz recorded 18.1 mm of rains.

As per private weather forecast agency, Skymet, the off-shore trough is extending from South Maharashtra Coast to Kerala Coast. Under the influence of this system, moderate to heavy rains will continue along the western coast along with light to moderate rainfall activity over Madhya Maharashtra.

"These rains will continue over the area. Simultaneously due to the depression marked over north-west Bay of Bengal off West Bengal and Odisha coast, Vidarbha region will also receive heavy to very heavy rains during the next 48 hours," the report stated adding that places like Gondia, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gadhchiroli, Wardha, Parbhani, Amravati and Akola are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rain on July 22 and July 23.
