A six-year-old boy died after being knocked down by a speeding car on Juhu-Versova Link Road in Andheri (West) around 8.30pm on Thursday. The son of a labourer couple, Mohammad Sayyad, was on his way home from a mosque.
The driver of the Skoda, Tejas Shah, rushed the boy to CritiCare Hospital with help from a few people who gathered at the spot. Sayyad sustained severe injury to the head and other parts of the body. He was moved to the civic-run Cooper Hospital where he was declared ‘dead’, said the police.
“Though it seems Shah wasn’t drunk, his blood sample has been sent for medical examination,” said senior inspector Rajendra Chavan of DN Nagar police station.
Shah, who has been charged with causing death due to rash and negligent driving, has been sent to judicial custody.
