The bone ossification test was conducted to verify the ages of the two accused boys. Mulund police station's senior police inspector, Rajaram Vhanmane, said "From the various documents we have got, there are discrepancies in the age of one of the accused. Even the magistrate (who heard their case) also noted the point, hence we decided to get the test done on both the accused to ascertain their proper age."
