The city has received 17 new proposals for redevelopment of dilapidated buildings in the city, after the Supreme Court lifted a ban on new constructions.

The proposals were made after the state approved the city's Development Plan 2034, said a senior civic official.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) expects to receive around 800 more proposals, which were on hold due to the ban, once the DP is implemented.

The top court in March lifted the ban for six months, on the condition that debris would not be dumped at the Deonar dumping ground.

A senior DP department official refused to divulge details about developers seeking approval, but said the proposals, from the city and suburbs, are under scrutiny.

According to an official from the DP department, a team of officials from the state's Urban Development department has been preparing a draft policy on development. "We will implement DP 2034 right after getting the draft policy on implementation of DP," he said.

Officials from solid waste management department said developers have to find a place outside Mumbai to dispose of construction debris. "This is a mandatory condition, and developers have to take a no-objection certificate from site owners to dump debris to get construction permit," said the official.

The ban did not apply to redevelopment of Mhada and cessed buildings, cluster and slum redevelopment, and construction of hospitals and educational institutes.

BMC chief Ajoy Mehta had earlier said a realty slowdown forced the civic body to scale down its earnings estimate from its building proposal department.

BACK-BURNERED

Redevelopment of tenanted properties in the suburbs and sale of units in these projects were stuck due to the SC ban.
