BMC Elections 2017: Citizen candidates live up to the mark

The Bhartiya Janta Party’s (BJP) decision of fielding citizen candidates proved to be the winning formula as six of its seven citizen candidates emerged victorious. They not only won the election but defeated their rivals with comprehensive margins.

In Colaba, citizen corporator Makarand Narwekar who contested civic election with a BJP ticket won from ward number 227. Narwekar said that though he won on BJP ticket, he is still a citizen candidate. “I will continue to work for them as I was working,” he said.

Renu Hansraj, who is associated with NGO Juhu Soul, won on BJP ticket from ward number 69 in Andheri (west). She defeated Congress candidate Bhawna Jain. She said that people supported her because she did a lot work in her area through the NGO.

Harshita Narwekar who won form ward number 226 on BJP ticket said that she received a lot of support from the party. “Now, I will concentrate on several issues which my area has been facing for a long time like traffic and hawker menace,” said Narwekar.

Rohan Rathod, 31, is the youth face of the BJP party in ward 68 comprising of areas like Four Bungalows and Seven Bungalows. First time candidate and brother-in-law of sitting Member of Legislative Assembly, from Andheri, Ameet Satam, thanked the public for their support and said that he will personally look into issues. Another citizen supported candidate Anish Makwane from ward number 71 also won. He said that he reached out to the people with a  concrete agenda of development, transparency.
