Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had recently emphasised that his first priority would be to bring a Right to Services Act on the lines of Madhya Pradesh, which offers legal recourse to citizens if they don't get services offered by government agencies within a stipulated period.

BMC seems to have taken it seriously and about 20 of its departments have been asked to prepare a list each on what should be the ideal time within which they need to attend and complete any important civic work, sources from BMC told dna.

The compiled list will be sent to municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte, who will then forward it to the state government.

Citizens often complain that repeated complaints on certain civic issues are not acted upon by civic authorities, or there is delayed action. The most common complaints are repair of bad roads, encroachment, and water-logging during monsoon, among others.

The Act, once implemented by the state government, will bring respite to citizens, who will be empowered and will be able to demand action against authorities concerned if their complaints are not addressed within the specified period.
