BMC adds a green lung to the Island city

The garden which has an open playground of 2,500 sq m has dedicated sections for children and senior citizens.

South Mumbai gets another green space. Right outside Mumbai Central Railway station, a beautiful garden named ‘Bhausaheb Hire Udyan’ that sprawls over 7,000 sq m, has been developed by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The garden which has an open playground of 2,500 sq m has dedicated sections for children and senior citizens. The garden has pathways and jogging tracks, gazebo providing reflexology around it. It also has skating rink, basketball court and open gym area.

Assistant Municipal Commissioner of D ward, Vishwas Mote said, “The garden was in bad condition and was a victim of encroachment. We removed all the shanties and hawkers who had made their homes inside the garden.” The renovation work started in March 2017 and the developed garden was inaugrated last week”.

Inaugurated last week, the garden is a hit with young and old alike. “Considering the summer vacations, the garden has opened to a good response,” Mote added.
