While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is busy preparing for its 38th Foundation Day celebrations to be held on April 6 at MMRDA grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), the party's state unit has given targets to each of its elected representatives to ensure the success of the mega rally that is expected to gather unprecedented crowds.

BJP National President Amit Shah will be arriving in the city on Thursday evening and will be addressing the mega rally of party workers on Friday. The party is expecting the attendance of at least 3 lakh party workers and has already made arrangements at the venue accordingly. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accompanied by BJP Mumbai president Ashish Shelar, visited the grounds on Tuesday for a review of the ongoing preparations where the CM also met office-bearers from the party.

Even though the gram panchayat elections are not fought on party symbols, BJP has 5,000 of its members elected as the sarpanch across the state. The party has a presence in all local bodies across almost all parts of the state.

The BJP has 122 MLAs in the state who have given specific targets for the mega event. A veteran informed DNA that the elected representatives have been told that bigger the number of people they bring for Friday's mega rally, the better would be prospects for them.

Shelar informed that the party's city unit is set to welcome Shah with a bike rally which will accompany the party's national president from the airport to the venue in BKC. Shah will also hold a meeting with legislatures from the state assembly and parliament on Friday evening.

The Foundation Day celebrations on Friday hold added significance as the event is seen as a formal launch of the party's campaign for the upcoming general elections in 2019. Arrangements have been made to bring party workers from various parts of Maharashtra to Mumbai in trains, buses and jeeps. Besides Shah, Union ministers hailing from Maharashtra and other BJP leaders will address the congregation to be held at 11:30 am.
