Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party are at it again. As Shiv Sena expressed sympathy for the accused civic engineers for the way they were picked up by police from their residence, BJP on Thursday attacked the alliance partner for crossing their line by showing sympathy and influencing the case.

On Thursday, BJP leader Manoj Kotak said that the inquiry and action taken against the accused civic engineers in the roads scam is going in the right direction. Municipal commissioner had assured the citizens that the guilty officials will be booked and police action will be taken as per the rule.

Hinting at the Shiv Sena's Member of Parliament Rahul Shewale's support to Engineers' Union and Leader of the House Trushna Vishwasrao's sympathetic statement for the civic engineers, Kotak said: "Whenever police action is going on, it is improper for any political party or any person to interfere in the process. One must not influence or try to intervene in the ongoing process. One must allow police to carry on with their action," said Kotak, adding that if the civic officials who were responsible to monitor the work done by contractors have faltered in their duty, strict action should be taken against them.

"All the political parties, municipal commissioner and the administration has expressed that culprit contractors and officials should not be spared, then no one should try to shield the accused official be it related to de-silting scam or roads scam," said Kotak.

However, Vishwasrao said that Sena is not shielding the accused officials but was expressing sympathy towards the family as the manner in which civic official were taken from their residence to the police station has brought disgrace to their family.

"The big fish have not been caught yet. The investigators should look for these big fishes. We have from the beginning said that those involved should be punished. However, the manner in which the engineers faces were covered and they were taken by the police makes them appear to be as hardened criminals," said Vishwasrao.

The police have arrested 25 accused in the road scam, which came to light after October 2015 when municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta ordered a probe into shoddy road repairs across the city. Based on the inquiry, the BMC filed an FIR in April 2016, naming six contractors.
