Following the announcement of dates for the Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken electioneering to the next stage by launching a war room at its state headquarters at Nariman Point.
Almost every single information relating to the party's campaign will be made available to various target groups, including the media from this war room. Maharashtra goes to polls on three days on April 10, 17 and 24 (Mumbai and Thane).
The hi-tech control room was inaugurated on Thursday by party MP and actor Smriti Irani. Information about a rally or a public meeting anywhere in the state will be made immediately after a rally. Mediapersons can seek information from the point as soon as a meeting is over.
"It is equipped with all communication equipment," said Shyam Sapre, a member of the state media cell.
Party officials said nearly 15-20 people will be manning the centre. They will provide detailed information on every constituency – Maharashtra has 48 seats. Information about all party activities across the state will be made available at the war room.
Tours and trips of various leaders, including national leaders, will also be arranged and information will be provided to various media. Even as a leader is on tour, the press will be updated with the information. Information about day-to-day activities and happenings of the party would be provided.
People working at the war room will be closely monitoring controversies and allegations made against the party's leaders. They will make information about on these available to party top brass as well as the media from time to time.
The war room will be manned by several spokespersons of the party and comprises different cells such as the print media, social media, IT and photography to meet the demands made by those sections.
