The property cell of the Mumbai crime branch on Monday arrested two people over the firing on hotelier BR Shetty in Andheri last month. The arrests were made from Jalandhar, said the police. The total number of arrests in the case has now gone up to five.

Talvindar Singh and Dilip Upadhya were traced to Jalandhar, where they had gone into hiding, following which a team was sent there and the two nabbed.

“While Upadhya was the main shooter in the case, Singh kept a tab on the victim. The duo would be brought to Mumbai on Tuesday and would be produced in the court on Wednesday,” said Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police (crime).

On October 3, two motorcycle-borne men shot at Shetty, who was driving back home from his hotel. The incident took place outside Infiniti Mall in Andheri (West).

Shetty was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and was discharged a few days later.

On October 20, the property cell arrested Nityanand Naik, a property dealer, following which Selvin Daniel was arrested from the Bangalore airport. Daniel is a relative of Satish Kalya, an accused in the murder of veteran journalist J Dey.

Later, the crime branch officials took custody of Kalya, who was lodged in ArthurRoad jail after it was found that he had hatched the plan at the behest of underworld don Chhota Rajan. The accused have been booked for attempt to murder under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
