Within only three months since the Mumbai Metro was launched, the rail operator has discovered a recruitment scam operated by fraudsters in the name of the partner companies.

The fraud involves advertisements in the name of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) or Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), inviting applications from candidates for various technical and administrative posts with MMRC and MMRDA.

"Those who have responded to these advertisements have received printed letters of appointment that require them to pay some deposit. The letters also bear the address of a website www.mumbaimetrorecruitment.in which is not an authorized platform. Appointments for posts in MMRDA or MMRC do not involve any deposit," said Dilip Kawathkar, spokesperson, MMRDA.

There are three different addresses of the website mentioned that are also fake and misleading. Two names, Sachin Negi and Sidhart Khandelwal, have been mentioned along with their contact numbers.
"MMRDA has complained to the cyber crime cell and the police are investigating the matter," Kawathkar said.

Around the time when the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro service was inaugurated in June, a fake message about similar recruitment was found circulating on popular messaging applications.

While MMRC has published advertisements for several posts for the yet-to-be-constructed Colaba-Bandra-Seepz line, officials enphasize that the operator has not appointed any outside individual or agency for the recruitment work.
