The BEST will soon meet wives and family members of its drivers and conductors who bunk work frequently. Taking into account its current situation in which the undertaking is incurring huge losses, it has decided to personally convince employees who are on long leaves to resume their work. The undertaking will soon start conducting community meets and individual meetings for the same.

The undertaking is preparing a list of drivers and conductors who have already received four chargesheets in last one year. If one receives the fifth chargesheet, the employee will be given a pink slip and will be terminated.

According to the Shiv Sena union leader Suhas Samant, around 750 drivers and conductors across 26 bus depots have received four chargesheets last year.

"We are making a list of employees from different bus depots who have more than four chargesheets against their names. We will not only call them but also their wives and family members to know what exactly is the issue behind their absenteeism," said Dr Surendra Bagde, General Manager, BEST Undertaking.

These chargesheets are served to employees who go on leave for more than 15 days without informing the administration. Their absenteeism is affecting the availability of buses on road. At least 10-12 per cent of the total 24000 drivers and conductors are on leave every day, claim officials.

On an average 350 buses are off-road every day mainly due to maintenance works and staff being absent.
