The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) has added 24 more bus routes as part of its 'Halt Bus By Showing Hand' to its existing 15 bus routes. "There are already 15 bus routes plying on various parts of Mumbai wherein passengers can halt and board the bus by showing hands. There's no need to wait at the bus stops or shelters," said Hanumant Gophane, BEST spokesperson.

Starting from April 1, 24 more bus routes have been added to this scheme. The reason behind this decision is to increase patronage to these bus routes as there has been a dip in ridership due to varying factors, including the share-a-cab and share-an-auto facilities.

The 24 bus routes are 18, 100, 111, 120, 192, 217, 247, 250, 262, 283, 294, 342, 378, 389, 393, 417, 435, 495 LTD, 632, 640, 646, 661, 696 and Dadar Feri-3.

As part of the routine operational changes, the BEST administration has introduced two new bus routes — 78 between Mahim and Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk (Jacob Circle) and AS-706 between SEEPZ and Bhayander (East) — whereas two other routes will be discontinued from April 1, they are 406 and AS-14 (Cadbury Junction, Thane —International Airport).
