In a bid to curb the rising levels of e-waste generated across the city, students from the Anjuman-i-Islam High school in the H/West ward at Bandra have set up an e-waste recycling process at the school level.

Two years ago, the girls from Anjuman-i-Islam High school participated in an e-waste recycling competition and since then, every month, they have been collecting e-waste in the school premises. According to the students, they have visited various schools and colleges in A and B wards of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to create awareness about recycling e-waste.

Speaking about the initiative, Anam Shaikh, class 10 student, said, "Earlier we were not aware that electronic waste could be recycled for better use. Now that we know about the techniques, we have started collecting e-waste from our individual houses and neighbours."

Another student, added, "During the door-to-door campaign, we educated people about the harmful effects of the toxic gases, and the need to recycle. We realised that many people were unaware that e-waste can be disposed of in a better way."

"We should be responsible enough to manage e-waste generated, beginning from our homes," added another student. Saba Patel, Principal of the school, said, "The students are implementing it in their homes and neighbourhood."
