In a bid to curb cases of speeding, rash driving and accidents that have also been fatal, the traffic police has asked authorities to put up rumblers, tyres and cat-eyes at the Bandra end of SV Road and of the Bandra Worli Sea Link. In a letter written to the BMC and MSRDC, the senior police inspector of the Bandra Traffic division has stated that these need to be put up urgently as it has also led to officials being hit during nakabandi duties, besides other accidents.

The letter written by M Bodkhe, senior police inspector of Bandra Traffic division, states that these be put up at the earliest. Bodkhe pointed out three places in particular that need these. These are U-bridge on Western Express Highway at Bandra, the approach road to Bandra Worli sea-link, and the point at which traffic from Mahim and the western express highway meet while heading towards sea-link. In 2015, on the U-bridge around seven fatal accidents have been registered apart from three to four other kinds of accidents.

“Cars coming from the western express highway and wanting to go to SV Road use U bridge or head to sea-link. Since the road is empty, people speed up to ensure that in minimum time, maximum distance is covered. Some people cannot manage driving in high speed. Hence, there are accidents. Besides this, on the approach to Bandra Worli Sea Link, there are many youngsters who on their two wheeler raise bets for racing. There are many initiatives that are taken at the police station and traffic post level but they have not been effective. Once a motor cyclist due to his rash driving even injured a traffic personnel during nakabandi. A case has been registered at Bandra police station on that,” the letter states.

“The letters were sent in September to the BMC and to MSRDC but we are yet to get anything,” said Bodkhe.
