On Wednesday, people celebrated Ashadhi Ekadashi by fasting and visiting Vitthal-Rakhumai temples, in addition to taking a bath in river Godavari at Ramkund in Nashik.
Similar festivities were also seen at Trimbakeshwar where devotees took a dip in Kushawarta, the holy pond where river Godavari emerges at the foot hills of Gangadwar mountain. Worshippers also visited Sant Nivruttinath (Sant Dyneshwar's brother) temple. The palkhi of Sant Nivruttinath, which started for Pandharpur from Trimbakeshwar in May, reached its destined place where the palkhis of all the sant brothers meet.
The day was filled with programmes of bhajan, pravachan and kirtan at various temples across the city.
After fasting, people savoured the delicacies of sabudana khichadi, bhagar – amti, fruits, dates and jalebi.
