Another heart green corridor was created in Mumbai, on Friday. This time the transport was taking place from Navi Mumbai. A heart was being transported from MGM Vashi in Navi Mumbai to Mulund suburb of Mumbai.
The Mumbai Traffic Police cleared the route, creating a green corridor up to Airoli.
A green corridor is when the traffic lights are lit green to allow for smooth and easy travel. This is usually done for transport of organs from hospital to another.
A green corridor was created recently, on August 3, for the first ever successful heart transplant which was conducted in Mumbai in Mulund's Fortis Hospital. This was the second attempt at a heart transplant; in 1968, an unsuccessful attempt was made for the same.
A 22-year old man from Badlapur was who was suffering from heart failure was the receipient of the heart and was operated upon for the transplant on Monday.
Green corridors were created both in Pune and Mumbai so the heart could travel to Pune and Mumbai airports respectively. Because of this the transport of the heart which would have otherwise taken four hours, took just about an hour.
