Andheri Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Tuesday implemented the state transport commissioner’s order to not allow the agents in the office premises which came as a major relief for the people. The step to remove the agents around the premises was welcomed by citizens, who are pestered by touts and agents to complete various documentation processes required at the RTO. “Earlier, people would end up paying Rs 1,000 to Rs 7,000 to agents to get their work done. Now, that the agents have been done away with, we will save a lot of money,” said Shyam Doshi, a resident of Vile Parle, who had come to get his driving license renewed.

Like hundreds of others, Doshi stood in a queue for hours. However, he stepped out of the office satisfied. As per the people, the agents would over-charge and take people for a ride. Although the procedure might take a little longer now, but it would save lot of money that people used to give to the agents for processing their documents.

To fully root out the involvement of agents from citizen-RTO interactions, officials at Andheri RTO have requested citizens to give their applications some time, so that they can be processed through the right channel and process.
