Dear Mr. Fadnavis,

First of all, I congratulate you on your party’s historic win in Maharashtra and you becoming the state’s second youngest CM. You being at the right side of age has raised the hopes of us youngsters a notch higher.

I must say you have an extremely tough task ahead of you. Your party has very cleverly sown the seed of hope in the minds of the people. You are very well aware of the fact that the Indians still rely more on emotion than facts. Whenever someone gives them a ray of hope, they follow it like the pied piper which is evident in the mandate handed to you, both in the centre as well as in the state. But staying true to them is not going to be easy.

I hope that you would not rely on ‘unconditional support’ from the NCP which was referred to as a ‘Naturally Corrupt Party’ by your own leader Narendra Modi. This would brand you as a hypocritical party and also stop you from openly pursuing corruption charges against their leaders.

Another important task on your hand is the issue of a single taxation system. Since I get to observe business from close quarter, I realize the various and innumerable kinds of taxes my father has to pay. Abolishing of octroi and LBT would do your party a world of good since you have the backing of a large section of Mumbai and Maharashtra’s business community. Securing their votes for the next election right at the start of their tenure would be ideal.

Apart from this, the development in Aamchi Mumbai has come to a standstill. It seems that the stalled projects in the city are much more than the completed ones. This policy paralysis needs to be cleared to get the city back to its feet. The Slum Rehabilitation scheme is in a mess and rather than slums being cleared for better housing, more slums are springing out after every passing day. We cannot control the number of people arriving in Mumbai from other states, but a fear of the law needs to be enforced into their minds so that they do not jump into any anti-social activity.

And finally, something for us: The youth of the state. We turned out in large numbers to vote and have given you this opportunity to serve us for the next five years. Many of us will be starting their professional careers very soon and it may not be a good start if the job market remains volatile. You have mentioned that a major responsibility for you is to create jobs for us. This can only happen if you walk the talk on your development agenda and not indulge in petty or vendetta politics.

I also hope that you would not be offended if we ask you questions regarding your work unlike certain leaders. Rather than cursing the system on every administrative failure and not be able to do anything to make it reach your ears, I would hope you create an environment where there will be complete transparency between you and the masses of the state. If you would be answerable to us, we will be answerable to you as well.

I also assure you my complete support in performing my duties as a citizen of the state and that it is imperative that I perform my duties before I expect you to fulfil our needs and stay true to your word.

Wishing you all the very best in your tenure and I hope that a young and dynamic Chief Minister could ensure that the glory days of Maharashtra return.

Yours Faithfully,
A hopeful citizen.
