As citizens were busy in New Year revelry on Monday night, a group of good Samaritans from Airoli decided to celebrate it with on-duty policemen and fire brigade personnel who had to toil for hours to maintain law and order.

Members of Naadgarja Dhol Tasha Pathak (Airoli) chose to give their bash a different touch. They distributed piping hot homemade parathas and hot flavoured milk to the cops and firefighters at Airoli, Thane and Kalwa. They went about with the good work till 4 am.

It was a sweet surprise for a team of firefighters when the volunteers landed at Jawahar Bagh fire station with the food items around 3 am. The team had just returned after putting out a blaze that gutted four shops in Karegaon of Thane.

"Our aim was to celebrate the tireless attitude that these servicemen display at the cost of their own merriment to keep the city safe and disaster-free on the eve of New Year," said Swapnil Choudhary, team leader of the organisation.
