Captain Cyrus Cama, the first Indian to fly the world's largest commercial plane, the Airbus A-380, was born and brought up in Mumbai. He worked with Vayudoot airline and Jet Airways before joining Emirates Airlines. Cama spoke to dna's Shahkar Abidi on the sidelines of the India Aviation 2014 show in Begumpet, Andhra Pradesh. Edited excerpts:

Q) How is the A-380 different from other aircraft?
Contrary to its size, it is super quiet and technologically advanced. There's spa, shower, and bar for passengers... It is like a mini palace and passengers can indulge themselves in the luxury and leave the aircraft fresh after a nice shower.

Q) You are the first Indian to fly it. How does it feel?
I have an aviation background; my father owned an aviation company. I followed in his footsteps. I did my schooling in Mumbai's Jamnabai Narsee and college in St Xavier's. I was never seriously into studies. I flew several aircraft for years before getting to fly the A-380. It is the best aircraft on earth... feels great to man the largest aircraft in the world.

Q) How is the aviation scene in India?
The scene here is pathetic... Pilots here are forced to migrate to foreign countries. Things have to change tremendously...

Q) Do you think the A-380 will be popular in India? A jumbo aircraft is known to bring down airfares...
Since quite a few airports in India are A-380 compliant, it will surely be a hit in Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad.
