The Versova police have registered a case against actor-comedian Kapil Sharma for allegedly violating the Environment (Protection) Act norms. Reportedly, Sharma dumped debris near mangroves behind his bungalow in SVP Nagar, Mhada colony, Four Bangalows, Versova, and also started illegal construction near it.

The FIR was filed after completion of a survey and documentation of evidence by the Andheri Talati office. Earlier on Saturday, the Maharashtra Mangrove Cell had submitted a report in this regard to Mumbai suburban collector Deependra Singh Kushwah. According to the report, Sharma allegedly dumped debris near mangroves behind his bungalow and also undertook illegal construction there. The report also suggested further probing of documents submitted to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and MHADA.

The actor bought his posh bungalow from one Baran Adaersh on November 7 last year. "We have recorded a complaint against the actor under Special Local Acts and under section 15(1)(2) of The Environment (Protection) Act," said police spokesperson Ashok Dudhe.

According to the sources, other bungalow owners are also under scrutiny now. The collector office has asked the department to carry out a survey once again and give the exact details of the residents who damaged mangroves." Nearly 50 bungalow owners are under the collector's scanner for alleged violations. Several other celebrities, who own plots in the area, will now face scrutiny for Environment Act violations.

Meanwhile last week, the Oshiwara police registered a police case against the actor under section 53(7) of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act (MRTP) for alleged unauthorised construction at his flat in suburban Goregaon. The case was based on a complaint by a BMC official.
