Activists confine IAS officer in her office for 3 hours

IAS officer and Chief Executive Officer of Palghar District, Nidhi Choudhari, was allegedly confined in her office at Palghar's administrative headquarters on Monday for three hours and harassed by more than fifty tribals, activists and former Vasai MLA and founder of Shramjeevi Sanghatan, Vivek Pandit.

The Palghar police on Friday arrested 38 persons who have been remanded in judicial custody and sent to Thane Central Jail. Shramjeevi Sanghatna on Friday called for a rasta roko in various parts of the state and a bandh at Municipal Corporations and Zilla Parishad of the state. Choudhari, a 2012 batch IAS officer, was posted in Palghar district as CEO in 2016.

On April 24, tribal activists from Shramjeevi Sanghatna allegedly barged into the administrative office at Palghar District which also houses the Palghar police headquarters.

"The activists came with a morcha and brought a representation letter about the problems faced by anganwadi workers such as low wages. So I asked them to meet me but they barged into the office and confined me for three hours," said Choudhari.

"If the police officers would have not been present, I would have ended up being assaulted. The activists behaved roughly and also manhandled me," Choudhari said.

A spokesperson for Shramjeevi Sanghatna said, "The arrest of our leader is based on bogus complaint filed by the IAS official. We went there to raise our demands which has not been fulfilled by the state government."

The Palghar Police arrested 38 persons including former MLA Vivek Pandit under sections 143 (unlawful assembly),147 (rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assaulting or obstructing a public servant from conducting duty), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC
