55-year-old woman killed in accident at Kurar

A 55-year-old woman was killed after the two-wheeler she was travelling on was hit by another two-wheeler at Kurar on Tuesday evening. The woman was travelling on the two-wheeler with her son. The Kurar police are on the lookout for the accused, who fled from the spot after the incident.

The deceased woman has been identified as Suhasini Sudhant Vajirkar, a resident of Goregaon (E).

According to the police, the incident took place around 7.30pm on Western Express Highway. Vajirkar's son Siddhesh, 27, an MBA student, had picked his mother up from Borivli and they were on their way to their Goregaon residence when the mishap took place. "According to Siddhesh, an unknown scooty rider, in an attempt to overtake from the left, hit their vehicle from behind," said an officer from Kurar police station.

He added that due to the impact, Siddhesh lost control over his vehicle and his mother, who was riding pillion, fell to the ground. She suffered severe head injuries and was bleeding profusely. She was rushed to Siddharth Hospital in Gorageaon (W), where the doctors pronounced her dead.

The Kurar police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act against the unknown scooter rider and are on the lookout for him.

Senior police inspector of Kurar police station Limbanna Whanmane said, "Siddhesh's mother suffered fatal injuries to her head, along with multiple fractures on her body, and she was bleeding intensively from her wounds. No medical help could be provided to her at the time of the accident. The accused is now absconding and we shall trace him soon."
