52-year-old Worli resident held for obscene calls to police control room

City crime branch sleuths have arrested a 52-year-old Worli resident for allegedly using filthy and abusive language with women constables posted in the main control room in the calls he made there. The suspect has been handed over to the Azad Maidan police station.

According to the police, on the night of January 1, a woman constable posted in the control room at the police headquarters had received a call from an unknown mobile phone number.

The caller abused the policewoman and hung up. The constable then brought the matter to the notice of her superiors, after which unit I of crime branch was asked to look into the matter. A case was registered in this regard at the Azad Maidan police station under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.

"On the basis of the mobile phone number used to make the call, we traced the accused," said the officer.
