The Bombay High Court on Thursday allowed four youths to do cleaning in their area every Sunday for six months while allowing their petition seeking quashing of the FIR registered against them in Thane for attempt to murder and molestation.

A division bench of justices RV More and VL Achliya, while imposing a fine of Rs5,000 on each, which needs to be deposited at the Tata Memorial Hospital, directed the inspector of Naupada police station to supervise the youths cleaning and tender a monthly report. "This will ensure your heart and head will be cleansed and you won't indulge in such violent acts again," the bench said.

The cleaning will be done every Sunday between 7am and 11am and 4pm and 7pm for six months.

The four youths between the ages of 25 and 30 were charged by the Naupada police on October 22, 2015, for attempt to murder and for molesting women during Navratri. It was alleged that when the DJ stopped playing music during the procession, they went up to him and assaulted him with wooden sticks, causing severe injuries to his hand and back.

The police arrested the four accused who were later released on bail. The four had approached the high court on the ground that their dispute was settled amicably and that the DJ and the women too gave their consent for quashing (the FIR).

Additional public prosecutor KV Saste said, "The court, after going through consent affidavits filed by all the parties involved, held it proper to quash the FIR but impose a cost and asked the accused whether they would volunteer to do some social service. The accused then agreed to clean their local area, Tekadi Bungalow, in Paach Pakhadi."
