More than 36% students of the total number of student who had applied for re-evaluation between 2015 and the beginning of 2016 at the University of Mumbai passed their exams post re-evaluation, a recent RTI has revealed.
As per an RTI response received by Pune based activist Vihar Durve, 47,487 students of the 1,31,782 applicants for re-evaluation passed their exams post the re-evaluation.
Between this time period, the university earned Rs 2.67 crore through re-evaluations and close to Rs 12.36 lakhs for photocopies, the RTI response revealed.
Durve has now demanded the university to refund the amount gained through re-evaluation. "The university is trying to fill its kitty through re evaluation and photocopying. When more than 35% students pass through re evaluation, why are the papers not checked properly in the beginning itself?" he added.
