A 30-year-old domestic help died after falling from a plush building at Maker Chamber in Cuffe Parade in the wee hours of Saturday. The incident occurred hours after a birthday celebration at the residence the deceased was working at, the police said.

Officers also said that three people, who the woman had been having a conversation with in the kitchen, saw her fall but didn't report the matter. Only after the watchman found the body in the morning, seven hours after the fall, did the incident come to light.

The deceased has been identified as Shamita Tambe, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Cuffe Parade.

According to the Cuffe Parade police, a birthday party was on in flat number 192 of one Ramesh Bhojwani on Friday night. Tambe and another help Aruna Ingole had been called for work.

"Tambe and a few others were in the kitchen and Tambe was sitting near the window. Apparently, she lost her balance and fell, landing on the porch," said an officer.

Senior inspector Deepak Patil said, "There were three people in the kitchen with Tambe when she fell, but nobody informed the police. The building's watchman spotted the body and called the police. Though the witnesses claim that they were frightened and hence did not inform the police, we are probing the incident from all angles."

Deputy commissioner of police (zone I) Manoj Kumar Sharma too went to the spot. Tambe's body was taken to JJ hospital for post-mortem. The police have registered an accidental death case as of now.
