3 labourers die after falling into trench in Kanjurmarg

Three labourers who were cleaning up a nullah at Kanjurmarg died after they fell into a trench on Sunday morning. The incident took place on the Eastern Express Highway near Kanjurmarg. According to the Kanjurmarg police, Sameer Pradhan (32), Dhaneshwar Swayan (36) and Raj Kishore (47) along with other four workers, were working for a private contractor, whose services were hired by the BMC to clean up a nullah. The labourers reached the spot late Saturday night to start their work.

However, at around 1:30 early morning of Sunday, all of them fell into a trench. While four of them were rescued and rushed to the hospital, Pradhan, Swayan and Kishore died on the spot. An officer attached to Kanjurmarg police station said " We are investigating the case. During investigation, if we find that no safety measures taken, we will register a case against the contractor". Officials from the disaster management control room were not sure of the cause of death. "Out of the four who were saved, one is admitted in Sion hospital, while other three had sustained minor injuries".
