Even as three policemen of the Talegaon Dabhade police station were suspended in the 6-year-old Shrusti Dabhade’s suicide case, her father advocate Vijay Dabhade said the suspension of the cops would not bring his daughter back.

He, however, said such an action would send a strong message in the police department. Senior police inspector Rajendra Patil, head constable RH Bhendbhar and police writer Sandip Sakpal were suspended by home minister RR Patil on Wednesday.

“We protested against the cops’ insensitive approach towards the eve-teasing issue and got them suspended. It will send a strong message in the society as well as in the police department and such incident would not occur again,”  Dabhade said.

Srushti, a class XI student of a junior college, on Tuesday allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from a water tank after being eve-teased by one Akash Salvi of Talegaon.

“On Tuesday, my wife, daughter and I went to the Talegaon Dabhade police station to register a complaint against the boy. However, the station duty officer Bhendbhar and Sakpal said it was a non-cognizable matter. My daughter even narrated harassment by the youth for last five months. However, the policemen showed tried to shirk off their duties.”

Dabhade claimed they were asked to approach senior police inspector Rajendra Patil and asked to convince him for the case. Patil kept them waiting for more than 30 minutes and did not meet them. He further added that if an advocate receives such treatment by the police officer, then what about the common man.

“As I was getting late, we left the police station. After dropping my daughter and wife at home, I went to the court for my daily work. In the afternoon, I received a call from my wife. She said out daughter has gone out of the house without taking her phone. I immediately called up the police station and informed that my daughter was not untraceable. After some time I got a call from the police station who told me that my daughter had jumped off a water tank,” he said. Shrusti was rushed to the hospital where she died during treatment.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (Pune rural) Manoj Lohiya said there was dereliction in the duty by the three cops. “The police station officials should have taken the complaint at the first place, but they did not show any seriousness in lodging the complaint,” Lohiya said.
