The Kandivli police has arrested a 28-year-old factory worker for allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl.
According to the police, the incident happened in Laljipada area, where both the victim and accused lived.
On Saturday night, the girl was alone at her place, when her neighbour (the accused), barged into her house around 8pm and sexually assaulted her. Mahipati Pandharmise, senior PI, said, "Her family had stepped out of the house when the incident happened."
The incident came to light when the girl's brother returned home and saw the accused with his sister, but he failed to catch the accused. Later, when both the brother and mother questioned her, she narrated the incident and identified the accused. That's when the family lodged a complaint.
"We immediately arrested the accused. The girl's medical reports are awaited. Her condition is stable," added Pandharmise.
The accused has been arrested on charges of rape. He does not have past criminal records, said the police.
