The Special Protection of Children against Sexual Offence Act (POCSOA) court on Monday convicted a 23-year-old man. He was held guilty of raping his ex-girlfriend, a minor, out of revenge.

The court has sentenced the youth to life imprisonment under the stringent POCSOA charge as well as under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court has charged the accused with a fine of Rs 25,000 on both counts, each.

According to the prosecution, the accused and the victim got acquainted with each other in 2012 at a dance academy, where they worked as instructors. They became close friends and used to perform together in a number of dance shows.

However, in 2013, the victim realised that the accused was an alcoholic, and on one occasion had physically assaulted her. Thus, the girl decided to move out of the relationship. However, the two were in touch as they used to work together.

On July 21, 2013, the accused called the victim in the academy on the pretext of teaching the kids. Upon reaching, she found that only the accused was present in the room. When she inquired about the kids, he said the kids were on a lunch break and that until they return, the two can practice their roles. The accused then locked the room.

He then threatened her with dire consequences and raped her. He also clicked her nude pictures. Somehow, the girl managed to return back home and an FIR was registered against the boy on July 22, 2013.
